2000
It was the year 2000, I was in the first grade at a new school, this is because in kindergarten I went to Denver elementary and the principal and faculty met with my mom and said, it was best that I left the school and went to an optional school for some reason or another. In the first grade at my new school, Keystone, I had one of the meanest teachers that I probably would ever have, her name was Mrs. Isacman, and she was a mean and bitter old woman with bright green eyes that looked as if they could see right through you. Me and my friend Josh would always get in trouble in her class, I don’t really remember much more about this year.
2001
In the second grade I had the best teacher that I have ever had her name was Mrs. Stevens. She did many activities with us, like field trips to fun places. In this year one of my favorite movies of all time came out, Shrek, this was one of the most popular movies of the time.
I remember in the beginning of the third grade something strange happened one day. I was just getting to school and the people in the office were all crowded around one television looking at something. I didn’t know what was going on so I just went to class. That morning on the announcements they told us what happened they said that a plane had crashed into the twin towers.
2002
In the remainder of the third grade I still had my friend from the first grade, josh, the rest of the year was weird after hearing about the 9/11 attacks. That was the last year Memphis city schools could wear the clothes that the wanted to wear. That year we moved to Shelby County and I didn’t have to wear uniform I was both mad and glad. On one hand I had to leave all of my friends but I did not have to wear uniform.
It was a new semester at another school in Shelby County. I went to Rivercrest Elementary in Arlington, that year was so different I had to ride the school bus to school and I had to meet new people from my neighborhood. Me and my friend from my other school grew apart because I never saw them and there was no MySpace or Face book.
2003
Not much happened in the fourth the fourth grade I remember that Nelly was a popular artist in that time and his song “Hot in here"
hit the top of the charts. I had a new best friend, his name was Cedric and we shared some of the same interests, we both like to draw and play video games. I think one of the more popular movies of this time was the iron Giant it was a movie about a boy who found the giant robot in the junk yard and they had many adventures. It was also the time when the Iraq war started. During this time basketball jerseys were in style and everyone who had one wore them.
2004
Fifth grade was a good year for me because it was my last year in elementary school and I was ready to be in the sixth grade. i felt so grown up. My teachers name was Mrs. Small and she was a nice woman as long as you turned in her work. This was my second and final year in Rivercrest Elementary and this was when the people were used to me and I made some great friends. In the fifth grade people started wearing velour jogging suits. Today when I look back at old pictures form elementary school. Sixth grade was a whole new feeling than the fifth grade I remember the first time i had to switch classes that was one of the most tiring days of my life. At first, I couldn’t handle it, dealing with all of the different personalities of the teachers was too much for me.
2005
Still in the sixth grade, My first period teacher was my homeroom teacher as well, his name was Mr. Lloyd. I remember like it was yesterday i had just gotten off of the school bus where i was listening to a CD player with the popular new artist, Chamillionare. It was his first album "The Sound of Revenge". Every day I would talk to my friend Victoria.
2006
i was in the seventh grade. i remember that we all talking about a new movie that was going to be filmed in Memphis called hustle and flow. we were all going to see it was a music about a southern rapper in Memphis trying to get his music out there. The music from this movie was popular at thi time. Even though we had a lot of freedom in this school they were very strict about electronic at this school they would even take them if they saw them sticking out of you pocket they would take them.
My English teacher of this time was a mean Irish woman. one that she made the class stand up and empty their pockets and if we had anything the we weren’t supposed to have in school she took it and turned it in to the office. That was the first time that i had ever gotten caught with something that I wasn’t supposed to have in class.
it was my Nintendo DS that i had just gotten for my birth day i was not able to get back of a long time.
2007
Eighth grade in Mrs. Wilsons home room was rough the students were very bad and rowdy. I was almost the only student in the class that did not give her problems. in the middle of the year something very bad happened to her, her husband died she was very sad for about a week and she didn’t do much, she just sat there. After that week i was very sick, the sickest that I have ever been in my life. I had the flu. After a week i came back to school and found that she had already remarried! i thought this was weird and so did the other students they made up stories about her saying that she killed her husband. Children are so cruel. The fads of this time were Jordans and jerseys.
2008
9th Grade was very hard for me, it was my first year at MASE and also the first time that i had to wear a uniform in my life. The most popular songs of this time were made by DJ Khalid, he used his skills to collaborate many artist making hit songs like " We Takin Ova" and "Hundred million dollars" I remember it was the day after my Birthday in Mr. Cooley's class and he wanted me to help grade the science projects and help clean out the ones that were made out of jellow and had spoiled. after I was done with that i went on to my other classes. Fifth period came around and i was in Mr. Wilkins's class a student came down to his class and told me to got to Mr. Henderson’s Office. I had no idea what was going on, I never got in trouble so i did not even know where the Mr. Henderson's office was someone had to take me there.
When I got in the office they asked me why I thought I was there. I said that I didn't know and they sent me back to class. They did not even know who I was
A few minutes later they called me back to the office saying that I had written something inappropriate on the walls of the bathroom and I was going to get suspended for it. No one believed it not the teachers, the students, or my parents. Long story short, I did not get suspended.
Aside from all of the bad things that happened in 2008, I do remember some of the good things my best name was Terrance, My favorite movie of the time was Iron man and a fad was wearing those big jackets with the loud colors and different prints on them.
2009
In t
he tenth grade I was in Mr. Campbell’s home room. This was a very boring year for me mainly because I did not get to walk around school much because I only had four classes, one of which I stayed in for three hours, A.P Biology. This meant that I got out at four O’clock I had been at the school for two year and I still did not know anyone because of thE classes that I took and the boys and the girls were separated when I was in the ninth grade.
Because of this I tried to ever school function and dance that I could go to.
This year was when Aerospatiale clothes and the artist Gucci Mane became popular. My favorite movie of 2009 was “The Hangover”.
2010
The current year and my junior year in high school this is my favorite year of all, I have a lot of new friends this year because my schedule allows me to meet many new people. This year my best friend’s name is Marquel and I get invited to parties because I know more people and I have made good friends. Mr. Cleaves is my homeroom teacher.
This year people are dressing more formally, because they are getting more mature, styles are changing and Polo clothes are popular.
I haven’t seen many movies this year but have recently seen the movie, “nightmare on Elm Street”.
