Walking on the moon

While on the Smithsonian website I browsed around and found some intresting facts.
This is what I read....


IN the year 1957 the Soviet Union launched a sattellite into orbit. The other countries including America were afraid because they thouoght that this meant that the Soviet Union would have military control in space.

This fear started a cold war between countries. at the time the Soviet Union was winning the cold was, but America was close behind. The President of the time said that America would be the first to walk on the moon before the decADE was out. They Achieved that goal in 1969, a year before the decade was over.
